Open Call Auditions

Tuesday February 4th and Wednesday February 5th at 6pm
at The Long Beach Playhouse, 5021 E Anaheim St. Long Beach, CA 90804

• All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• Auditioners only need to come to one night of Open Call Auditions. See below to register for an audition time. If you are unable to sign up for an audition time slot or the time you would like is full you are welcome to come in person. We will have a standby list for each day of open call auditions.
• Casting ages 13 – 19. In compliance with Concord Theatrical’s rules all actors must be 19 or younger for the entire production.
• Bring headshot and resume if possible. We will also have a short form for you to fill out when you arrive (see the Audition Materials section below to download a copy).  
• Please prepare 16 bars of a contemporary musical theater or folk/pop song in the style of the show but not from the show – please no Jason Robert Brown or Sondheim songs. Bring printed sheet music for live accompanist, karaoke or recorded tracks will not be permitted. Be prepared to take direction and answer questions.  If you do not have sheet music we will be asking you to sing the song “You Are My Sunshine” you can find the rehearsal tracks for low, middle and high voice below the Audition Materials section
• This production will be double cast. The two sets of casts will alternate on different performances of the run. The dates of which cast will perform when will be determined after casting.

• all first time or newer auditioners are encouraged to attend one of the free audition workshops that will be taking place at the Long Beach Playhouse on Saturday January 18th or Saturday February 1st from 9am to 12 noon. (Both dates will cover the same material) To register for an audition workshop see below

  CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

• PLEASE NOTE: This production will be double cast. The two sets of casts will alternate on different performances of the run. The dates of which cast will perform when will be determined after casting.

• ORPHEUS: Tenor with strong falsetto, D3-C5. Lyre-playing poet, gifted and naïve. Ability to play guitar or learn is a plus.

• EURYDICE: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, F#3-D5. A runaway, tough and vulnerable

• HADES: Bass, F2-C#4. Compulsive industrialist, boss-king of Hadestown

• PERSEPHONE: Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, F3-C5. Queen of nature and the season, a lush

• HERMES: Tenor/Baritone, C3-B4. Charismatic guide and storyteller, mentor to Orpheus.

• FATES (3): Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, E3-D5 (Fate 1 up to Eb5). Three Sisters, vicious and delicious, voices in the head

• WORKERS (6-8): SATB. Spirits of labor and community, a physical choral presence

• Callbacks will include singing parts of the show as well as learning a short section of dance choreography
